Job summary

Fermilab is hiring a Groundskeeper to perform landscape maintenance and support broader site infrastructure. You will work onsite at Batavia, performing mowing, pruning, planting care, and snow removal as part of daily operations.

The role requires handling heavy physical work, operating equipment, and completing pesticide and wildfire training as needed. Fermi provides benefits and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; 1+ years experience preferred.
• Ability to operate equipment and job-related machinery.
• Basic knowledge of hand-held power tools operation and maintenance.
• Willingness to obtain NWCG S130 & S190 wildfire training (Fermi pays)
• Willingness to obtain a pesticide operator's license (Fermi pays)

Responsibilities

• Perform landscape maintenance: mowing, trimming, pruning, plant care, pesticide application, fertilizing, snow removal.
• Complete routine landscaping repairs including hauling, spreading and seeding topsoil; install erosion control materials.
• Assist in tree removal using chain saws, chippers, stump grinders.
• Contribute to prairie and woodland restoration via prescribed fire management and invasive species control.
• Maintain underground storm water drainage systems and perform related tasks.
• Perform heavy physical labor up to 50 lbs and follow safety regulations.
