Job description

You’ve spent years building great landscapes. Now run the operation that builds them.

Mom’s Design Build is an award-winning design/build firm creating custom outdoor spaces across the Twin Cities, from patios and retaining walls to outdoor kitchens, plantings, and water features. Because we handle every project from first sketch to final walkthrough, our designers and field crews work as one team, and the quality of the install matters as much as the design on paper. Our clients trust us with their homes and their budgets, and our crews take pride in building spaces families will use and enjoy for decades.

Our name reflects a simple belief: people matter. That shows in how we treat our clients and our crews. We study how people actually live and gather, then combine that with horticulture and architecture to create spaces that are both beautiful and useful.

We’re growing, and we need a Production Manager to turn great designs into great projects, on time and on budget.

The role

You’ll report to our Founder & COO and lead field production, including our install crews, crew leads, and subcontractor relationships. Projects range from $2,500 to $3 million, and you’ll own production scheduling, job costing, and materials purchasing across all active jobs.

Your year at a glance
  • Install season (spring-fall): Schedule crews and equipment, keep jobs on track, solve problems on site, and work closely with our designers.
  • Snow season (winter): Run snow operations end to end, from selling contracts to dispatching crews. Expect early mornings and on-call nights during events.
  • Off-season planning: Hire and train for the coming year, refine pricing and job costing, and improve how we work.
What you’ll do
Lead the team
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop crew leads and crew members, and conduct performance reviews with the COO
  • Build training that brings crew leads up to Mom’s standards
  • Resolve conflicts and step in as crew lead when needed
Deliver great projects
  • Review plans with designers and turn them into clear, buildable schedules
  • Coordinate foremen, designers, and subcontractors so jobs finish on time and on budget
  • Provide hands‑on technical support at job sites
  • Keep clients happy from first shovel to final walkthrough
Run the operation
  • Schedule crews and equipment across all active jobs
  • Order materials, manage inventory, and negotiate vendor pricing
  • Work with our shop manager to keep equipment ready and DOT‑compliant
  • Build and refine job costing, and advise on pricing and contracts
  • Report production performance to the COO
Own snow and safety
  • Run winter snow operations, including sales, dispatch, and crew management
  • Lead and continually improve our safety program
What you bring
Must-haves
  • 5+ years in landscape construction, including supervising and scheduling crews
  • Strong knowledge of hardscape and softscape installation, plant material, and equipment common in the Upper Midwest
  • Experience managing job budgets and tracking costs
  • Clear, confident communication with crews, designers, vendors, and clients
  • Strong organization and attention to detail across many jobs at once
  • Comfort with scheduling and project management software
  • Willingness to obtain a Class A CDL within your first 30 days (we cover training and testing costs)
Nice-to-haves
  • Snow and ice management experience, especially dispatch or sales
  • Certifications such as MNLA Certified, ICPI Concrete Paver Installer, or a Minnesota pesticide applicator license
  • Experience building training programs or hiring processes
  • A Class A CDL already in hand

Don’t check every box? If you’ve run crews and love building great landscapes, we’d still like to hear from you.
