Job summary

Hazeltine Nursery in Southwest Florida seeks a knowledgeable and results-driven Production Manager to oversee daily maintenance and plant production. You will manage field crews, optimize production schedules, ensure plant quality, and drive operational efficiency while leading safety, training, and performance initiatives across the site.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5+ years in maintenance production or horticulture, strong leadership, and a passion for delivering high-quality nursery products

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of plant care, irrigation, fertilization, and pest management
• Proven leadership and team management experience
• Ability to work outdoors in Southwest Florida
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

• Production Planning & Scheduling: Develop and manage weekly and seasonal production schedules
• Plant Management: Oversee all phases of plant production including irrigation, fertilization, pruning, pest/disease control, and proper plant health
• Quality Assurance: Maintain quality standards by inspections and ensuring plants meet size, health, and presentation expectations
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement efficiencies in production processes to improve
• Equipment & Fleet Management: Oversee maintenance and usage of equipment, vehicles, and tools; coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules
• Team Leadership: Manage and lead crews to ensure productivity, safety, and quality standards
• Training & Development: Train staff on best practices, plant care techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures
• Performance Management: Assist with crew performance evaluations, coaching, and recognition
• Time & Labor Management: Review and approve timecards and manage labor allocation
• Safety Compliance: Participate in safety meetings and ensure OSHA and company safety standards
• Reporting & Analytics: Monitor production metrics such as output, labor efficiency, and costs
• Forecasting: Assist in planning seasonal labor needs, equipment and supply requirements
• On‑Site Leadership: Engage with crews to ensure quality and morale
• Client & Vendor Interaction: Support communication with customers and suppliers
• Meetings: Participate in weekly production meetings and company initiatives

Position Summary

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Production Operations

• Production Planning & Scheduling:
  Develop and manage weekly and seasonal production schedules

• Plant Management:
  Oversee all phases of plant production including irrigation, fertilization, pruning, pest/disease control, and proper plant health

• Quality Assurance:
  Maintain Hazeltine Nursery’s quality standards by conducting routine inspections and ensuring plants meet size, health, and presentation expectations.

• Process Improvement:

Supervisory & Personnel Responsibilities

• Team Leadership:

• Training & Development:
  Train staff on best practices, plant care techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.

• Performance Management:
  Assist management with crew performance evaluations, coaching, discipline, and recognition as appropriate.

• Time & Labor Management:
  Review and approve employee timecards and manage labor allocation to maximize efficiency and stay within budget.

• Safety Compliance:
  Participates in regular safety meetings and ensure adherence to OSHA and company safety standards.

Administrative & Financial Responsibilities

• Reporting & Analytics:
  Monitor key performance metrics such as production output, shrinkage, labor efficiency, and cost per unit.

• Forecasting:
  Assists in planning seasonal labor needs, equipment and supply requirements.

Team Collaboration & Communication

• On‑Site Leadership:
  Engages with crews to ensure quality, productivity, and team morale.

• Client & Vendor Interaction:
  Support communication with customers and suppliers when needed to ensure satisfaction and smooth operations.

• Meetings:
  Participate in weekly production meetings, planning sessions, and company initiatives.

• Communication Standards:
  Maintain timely and professional communication with team members and leadership.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of experience in maintenance production, horticulture, agriculture, or related field

• Strong knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems, fertilization, and pest management

• Proven leadership and team management experience

• Ability to work in outdoor conditions in Southwest Florida climate

• Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication skills

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
