Nursery Production Coordinator Job Summary

The Nursery Production Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the nursery, including the maintenance, propagation, production, and overall health of nursery inventory. This position manages and coordinates the daily activities of 15+ nursery employees working in the field and ensures that nursery operations are completed efficiently, safely, and according to established quality standards. The Nursery Production Coordinator is responsible for supporting the propagation, growing, and maintenance of nearly 1,000 unique plant varieties, including proprietary plant varieties. This position works closely with nursery leadership and field teams to maintain plant quality, monitor plant health, coordinate production activities, and ensure inventory is properly maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Nursery Operations & Production Coordinate the daily operations and activities of the nursery to ensure work is completed efficiently and according to production schedules.
  • Manage and coordinate the daily work of 15+ nursery employees in the field.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor employee productivity, work quality, and completion of assigned work.
  • Coordinate nursery maintenance activities, including watering, fertilizing, pruning, spacing, moving, potting, and general plant care.
  • Oversee the propagation and production of a diverse inventory of nearly 1,000 unique plant varieties.
  • Support the production and maintenance of proprietary plant varieties while maintaining appropriate quality and production standards.
  • Monitor plant growth, development, quality, and overall health throughout the production cycle.
  • Identify plant health issues, pest activity, disease, irrigation concerns, nutritional deficiencies, and other conditions that may impact inventory.
  • Coordinate appropriate corrective actions to maintain plant health and minimize inventory loss.
  • Monitor nursery inventory and communicate shortages, quality concerns, production issues, and anticipated needs to management.
  • Ensure plants are properly labeled, organized, spaced, and maintained for efficient inventory management.
  • Assist with planning production needs based on inventory requirements, customer demand, and seasonal conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records related to propagation, production, plant health, inventory, and nursery activities.
  • Aspire Software & Administrative Responsibilities Serve as a key user of Aspire software for nursery operations.
  • Review employee time and operational information for accuracy and communicate discrepancies to management or HR as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure required information is entered into Aspire in a timely manner.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining reports related to nursery production, labor, inventory, and operational performance.
  • Support management in utilizing Aspire to improve communication, accountability, scheduling, and operational efficiency.
  • Team Leadership Provide daily direction and guidance to nursery employees.
  • Train employees on proper plant handling, maintenance, propagation, safety, and nursery procedures.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and feedback as needed.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and productive work environment.
  • Ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures, and proper plant-care practices.
  • Communicate staffing, performance, attendance, and operational concerns to management.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure nursery priorities are aligned with company and customer needs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of nursery operations, plant production, propagation, and plant health.
  • Experience managing or coordinating field employees in a nursery, horticulture, landscaping, or agricultural environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate daily work for a team of 15+ employees.
  • Strong knowledge of plant varieties, growing requirements, and proper plant-care practices.
  • Ability to identify common plant diseases, pests, nutritional deficiencies, and other plant health concerns.
  • Experience with propagation and growing practices.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound day-to-day operational decisions.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn and effectively use software systems.
  • Experience with Aspire software preferred.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Education & Experience
  • Degree or formal education in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, Nursery Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in nursery production, horticulture, landscaping, agriculture, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience managing field employees preferred.
  • Experience with plant propagation, production, and plant health care preferred.
  • Experience working with Aspire or similar landscape/nursery management software preferred.
Physical & Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily outdoors in a nursery environment and in varying weather conditions. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, carrying, and moving plants and materials. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required. May be exposed to heat, humidity, rain, soil, fertilizers, pesticides, insects, and other outdoor conditions.
