Job summary

Great Lakes Landscape Supply in Cedar Springs, MI is seeking a detail-oriented Plant Buyer to manage procurement of trees, shrubs, perennials, and other green goods for our wholesale nursery.

You will negotiate with suppliers, forecast seasonal demand with senior buyers and sales, and ensure quality and timely deliveries while maintaining strong supplier relationships. This is a full-time role with experience-based pay and advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in nursery management, horticulture, or plant procurement (3+ years preferred).
• Degree, certification, or equivalent in horticulture, plant science, or related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Source and purchase nursery stock and green goods from reputable growers and suppliers.
• Forecast seasonal demand in collaboration with senior buyers, sales, and production teams.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure proper product mix and turnover.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers and actively seek new sources.
• Coordinate incoming plant deliveries and freight, inspecting for quality and health.
• Work closely with the sales team to identify/high-demand or special order plant items.
• Track and manage purchase orders, invoices, and vendor performance; assist pricing strategies.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Plant Buyer to manage the procurement of green goods which can include trees, shrubs, perennials, and specialty plants—for our Wholesale landscape Supply nursery. The ideal candidate will have good horticultural knowledge, supplier negotiation skills, and a keen eye for plant quality and seasonal availability. This role is critical to maintaining our reputation for offering healthy, diverse, and good-quality plant material to our professional landscaping clients.

We sell trees, shrubs, perennials, natural stone, concrete products, and more. We have 50+ acres of ready-to-sell plant material ranging from 3' shrubs to 5" caliper trees. Experience

• Degree, certification, or equivalent in horticulture, plant science, or
• prior work experience in a related field is a plus, but not required.
• Good understanding of plant species
• Good negotiation and vendor relationship skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and prioritize
• seasonal needs.
• Comfortable using inventory and purchasing software (e.g., Excel,
• nursery management systems).
