Job summary

City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a knowledgeable Landscape Maintenance Supervisor to lead a maintenance crew responsible for the City’s landscape and irrigation programs. You will direct staff, manage work orders, and ensure safety and quality in daily operations.

You will prepare budgets, develop plans and SOPs, and coordinate service agreements while reporting to multiple divisions within Public Works. The role requires after-hours work and regular meetings with City staff and residents.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of increasingly responsible landscape maintenance experience, including 1 year of lead supervisory responsibility
  • High school diploma supplemented by college coursework in landscape architecture, horticulture, forestry or related field
  • Ability to motivate and lead others; be a team player
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make timely, informed decisions
  • Ability to work with residents and other stakeholders effectively
  • State of California DPR Qualified Applicator Certificate Categories B & C and ISA Certification (as listed)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations of City landscape construction and maintenance programs; identify ways to conserve resources and promote environmental sustainability
  • Manage and supervise work crews; review work orders for completion per performance, productivity, and safety guidelines
  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate staff performance; provide coaching for improvement and development
  • Create and distribute reports to departments and other agencies
  • Develop biannual operations budgets for General Fund and Landscape Assessment Districts; ensure expenditures are within parameters
  • Prepare/edit landscape and irrigation construction plans, work plans, SOPs, and maintenance calendars
  • Develop Scopes of Work and site maps for service agreements and task orders
  • Document and report costs for in-house maintenance operations and contracted services
  • Attend after-hours City Council, Planning Commission, and public outreach meetings as needed

The City is seeking a knowledgeable and results oriented Landscape Maintenance Supervisor who will effectively lead a team of maintenance crew members and equipment operators in the administration of the City’s landscape and maintenance programs.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Oversee operations of City landscape construction and maintenance programs; identify ways to conserve resources and promote environmental sustainability
  • Manage and supervise work crews; review work orders for completion according to performance quality, productivity and safety guidelines
  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; regularly monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement and development
  • Create and distribute reports to departments and other agencies
  • Develop biannual operations budgets for both General Fund and Landscape Assessment Districts; ensure that expenditures are within appropriate parameters
  • Prepare and/or edit landscape and irrigation construction plans, work plans, standard operating procedures, and maintenance calendars
  • Develop Scopes of Work and site maps for service agreements and task orders
  • Document and report costs for both in-house maintenance operations and contracted services
  • Attend after-hours City Council, Planning Commission, and public outreach meetings on as-needed basis

This position requires working after hours, emergency, and on call duties as necessary.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • 6 or more years of increasingly responsible landscape maintenance experience, including 1 year of lead supervisory responsibility
  • High school diploma supplemented by college level course work in landscape architecture, horticulture, forestry or related field
  • Ability to effectively motivate and lead others; be a team player
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, and make effective, timely and informed decisions
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with different stakeholders such as residents
  • State of California Department of Pesticide Regulations Qualified Applicator Certificate Categories B & C
  • International Society of Arboriculture Certification
