Job summary

Ysleta Independent School District is seeking a Grounds/Irrigation Supervisor to oversee sprinkler systems across district facilities. The role includes designing and coordinating sprinkler installations, scheduling repairs, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

The candidate must hold a Landscape Irrigator license and a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester License, plus several years of grounds maintenance experience and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Landscape Irrigator license and Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester license within 90 days.
  • Three years verifiable grounds maintenance experience; at least one year sprinkler installation/repair.
  • Valid Texas or New Mexico driver's license; ability to read, write, speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain city permits for irrigation work.

  • Read schematics and select materials for installations.
  • Recommend sprinkler design changes and select pipes.

  • Ensure safety and compliance; inspect work for conformance.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Irrigation Technician, Grounds Keepers, Trades Helpers.
  • Provide orientation and training as assigned.
  • Operate grounds equipment and maintain tools; attend site as required.

Job description

Perform grounds maintenance, conservation, and improvement duties as part of a grounds crew. Install, maintain, and repair sprinkler systems. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all irrigation systems in district facilities. Supervise all district irrigation projects applicable to permit-related work. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the acquisition of city permits as applicable to all district irrigation work.
  • Supervise and inspect all permitted irrigation activities, assuring compliance and approval by local building officials.
  • Schedule sprinkler system repairs and new installations in coordination with Grounds Supervisor; prioritize tasks to allow for problems or emergency situations; refer problems that cannot be resolved to immediate supervisor.
  • Read and interpret schematics for the sprinkler system and cross-connection installations. Identify required equipment, materials, and supplies for the particular job and prepare accurate material requisitions.
  • Recommend sprinkler system design for new installations and proposed system changes; select pipes and fittings based on cubic feet per minute (CFM), velocity, and water pressure requirements.
  • Perform routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance on sprinkler systems. Perform inspections on pressure vacuum breakers and reduced pressure assemblies annually and make and/or coordinate repairs as necessary. Inspect completed work of other employees and contractors for conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Clean, maintain, and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for vehicle, vehicle inventory, materials, tools, and record keeping necessary to satisfactorily complete an assigned task. Schedule required maintenance and inspections and keep vehicle and work areas clean and orderly.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to Irrigation Technician, Grounds Keepers and Trades Helpers, as assigned; cooperate with coworkers and routinely report necessary information to immediate supervisor.
  • Provide orientation, training, motivation, discipline and evaluation of personnel, as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor.
  • Operate grounds equipment and use grounds-related machines and hand tools, as required.
  • Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); Landscape Irrigator license, and obtain a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester License within 90 days of employment; three (3) years verifiable experience in grounds maintenance and at least one (1) year in sprinkler installation and repair; related technical training preferred. Must possess a valid Texas or New Mexico driver's license; be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier; subject to the YISD drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Maintain emotional control under stress. Be able to travel district-wide frequently. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; work under all weather conditions; be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, heavy lifting, and carrying. Will be exposed to insects; ability to work with pesticides and herbicides or other potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner.
