Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
Experience
Prior work and knowledge related to repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
Major Responsibilities
- Maintain district underground irrigation/sprinkler systems in efficient working order to properly distribute irrigation water to MISD grounds.
- Calibrate controls of all irrigation/sprinkler systems to operate in an efficient manner as directed.
- Maintain all sprinkler systems to operate in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
- Assist the Grounds Department in repair and related systems and equipment as assigned by Irrigation Foreman; repair and maintain pumps, valves, piping as requested.
- Consult with Principals to determine if they have problems with any irrigation or sprinkler equipment or watering schedules.
- Monitor on a monthly basis all District underground irrigation sprinkler systems to verify if systems are properly operating.
- Grease or oil all irrigation/sprinkler systems pumps as required by manufacturer.
- Communicate with Irrigation Crew and Irrigation Foreman on all projects and work order status.
- Other duties as assigned by the Irrigation Foreman, or Director of Facility Design.
Qualification Requirements
Minimum Certification/Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of basic mechanical and plumbing equipment and underground irrigation & sprinkler systems, valves, sprinkler heads, pumps etc.
Minimum Experience:
- Documented prior experience servicing and maintaining mechanical, plumbing and irrigation systems.
Physical Demands
Moderate lifting and carrying; reaching above shoulders and below knees; use of fingers, arms, legs; repeated bending; regular attendance required.
Equipment Used
Standard hand tools and power tools used in general plumbing or irrigation/sprinkler repair and maintenance; MISD pick-up or van or other similar vehicle; ladders; shovels.
Work Environment
Outside and inside; excessive dampness or chilling, or heat; constant noise, fumes, dust, dirt; solvents, chemicals; electrical energy; working around machinery with moving parts; working from ladders or in tight confined spaces such as attics, crawl spaces or equipment tunnels; working in trenches and in a wet environment.
