Job description

Position Core Profile: The Installation Crew Leader is responsible for leading landscape installation projects from start to finish, ensuring work is completed on time, on budget, and to the company's quality and safety standards. This role combines hands‑on field work with team supervision and requires strong horticultural knowledge, construction capabilities, and leadership skills. The Installation Leader plays a key role in translating landscape designs into functional, high-quality environments.

Accountabilities:

  • Crew Supervision and Development: Lead and motivate a crew of landscape laborers and technicians; Provide guidance, hands‑on instruction, and enforce safety procedures; Support training and onboarding of new team members.
  • Construction and Installation Execution: Execute and supervise installation of plant material, turf, mulch, and hardscape features including patios, walkways, retaining walls, and irrigation systems; Ensure adherence to specifications, grades, and layout plans; Operate machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Quality Control and Site Management: Monitor job site cleanliness, equipment condition, and safety compliance; Identify quality concerns early and correct issues to avoid rework; rack labor hours and material usage; submit accurate documentation.
  • Customer Communication and Problem Solving: Communicate regularly with Operations Managers or clients about progress and concerns; Address unexpected challenges on‑site with timely, effective solutions; Represent the company professionally in all customer interactions.

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in the landscaping industry
  • Leadership Experience: 1+ years of leadership experience preferred
  • Licensing/Certification: Valid state driver's license required; DOT medical card or equipment certifications a plus
  • Skills:
  • Strong working knowledge of landscape installation, enhancement, and maintenance methods including planting, grading, hardscape layout, and irrigation basics
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate a crew in a dynamic field environment while maintaining morale, efficiency, and quality standards
  • Proficient in the safe use of landscape construction tools and equipment including skid steers, trenchers, plate compactors, and power tools
  • Skilled at adjusting crew assignments and schedules in response to weather, material delays, or unexpected site conditions
  • Excellent at prioritizing daily tasks, maintaining accurate job records, and managing multiple job sites or phases simultaneously
  • Clear, professional verbal communication with crew members, supervisors, and clients; able to convey job expectations, feedback, and resolve issues promptly
  • High attention to detail in workmanship and site presentation, with a strong commitment to enforcing safety protocols and worksite cleanliness

Working Conditions and Availability Disclosure:

  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, as well as regular use of hands and arms to perform manual labor and operate landscaping equipment. Employees must be able to lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier lifting being team-assisted or reasonably accommodated. The role involves the operation of various landscaping tools and equipment such as trimmers, blowers, mowers, and shovels. It also requires sufficient visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination to safely perform detailed tasks and operate machinery. Additionally, the position may occasionally involve climbing or working at heights, including ladders, slopes, or uneven terrain.
  • Work is regularly performed outdoors and exposes the employee to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and sun. There is potential exposure to noise, dust, pollen, and various plant and chemical materials commonly used in landscaping. The job may require working on uneven terrain, near traffic, or within active construction zones. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and boots, is required to ensure safety on the job
  • Must be available for early start times, overtime, or weekend shifts as needed.
