Job description

ROLE OVERVIEW: The Landscape and Facilities Assistant at Olympic Sculpture Park is responsible for maintaining park grounds and facilities, with an emphasis on gardening needs.

FSLA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Facilities and Landscape, Olympic Sculpture Park

COMPENSATION: $22.45 - $22.65 / hour

WORK SCHEDULE: Typically scheduled from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Sunday through Thursday. Flexibility is required to support department or organizational needs as directed by your supervisor.

BENEFITS: Full-time SAM staff are eligible for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and LTD/AD&D. Additional benefits include a Flexible Spending Account, optional Short Term Disability, and a 403b retirement plan with a 3% employer contribution after 1 year/1,000 hours. Paid time off includes vacation, sick leave, bereavement, and jury duty. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Park Maintenance
  • Participate in daily park operations, including planning and coordination of activities, focusing on artistic and horticultural aspects.
  • Maintain the integrity of the original landscape design across ecological zones, including decisions on shrub and tree growth.
  • Perform seasonal pruning, support removal of non-native species, and plant new shrubs and trees as needed.
  • General groundskeeping duties: weeding, irrigation, litter removal, and debris collection.
  • Use gardening tools and power equipment safely and effectively.
Facilities Maintenance
  • Monitor and maintain all facilities, including lighting, restrooms, fountains, and storm drains.
  • Perform cleaning duties, operate equipment, and supervise outside contractors.
  • Act as a park ambassador to visitors.
Event Support
  • Support park programming and event setup according to plans and coordination with event staff.
  • Assist with logistics such as relocating items, setting up furniture, and managing deliveries.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year experience in groundskeeping or custodial fields, with horticultural experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of native plants and landscape design support.
  • Ability to operate various equipment, learn policies regarding art preservation, and work professionally with the public.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, Asana, Slack, and internet research.
  • Valid Washington driver’s license and ability to pass background checks.
Working Conditions and Physical Activities

Work is primarily outdoors, with indoor spaces in a climate-controlled environment. Physical activities include lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, and operating equipment safely.
