McFarlin Stanford is seeking an experienced Design/Build Sales & Design Manager to lead the sales and design team and drive department revenue, profitability, and overall performance.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong landscape design knowledge, proven sales experience, and the ability to coach and develop a team. The manager will oversee the sales pipeline, design process, project pricing, and transition of projects from sale through production.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of residential landscape design/build experience.
  • Experience in consultative sales and sales management.
  • Record of selling design/build projects up to $600k+.
  • Strong knowledge of landscape design, planting, hardscape, drainage, and construction.
  • Experience leading design teams and sales professionals.
  • Understanding of estimating, job costing, gross margin, and change orders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach the Design/Sales team to meet goals.
  • Drive sales revenue, gross margin, pipeline, and backlog.
  • Oversee sales process from lead to signed contract and handoff.
  • Engage with clients via consultations, site visits, proposals, and closings.
  • Review pricing, estimates, proposals, and margins for accuracy.
  • Ensure landscape designs are creative, accurate, and buildable.
  • Manage design schedules, workloads, and budgets.
  • Ensure construction docs and handoffs are complete and accurate.
  • Collaborate with estimating and production to prep projects for construction.
  • Build relationships with clients and referral partners.
  • Standardize sales/design processes across company systems.
  • Monitor KPIs and find improvement opportunities.
  • Support team in resolving client, design, and project issues.

Job description

Company is seeking an experienced Design/Build Sales & Design Manager to lead the sales and design team and drive department revenue, profitability, and overall performance.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with strong landscape design knowledge, proven sales experience, and the ability to coach and develop a team. The manager will oversee the sales pipeline, design process, project pricing, and transition of projects from sale through production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Design/Sales team, including goal setting, coaching, performance management, and accountability.
  • Drive department sales, revenue, gross margin, pipeline, and backlog goals.
  • Manage the sales process from lead qualification through signed contract and production handoff.
  • Participate in client consultations, site visits, presentations, proposals, and closings.
  • Review and approve pricing, estimates, proposals, and project margins.
  • Oversee landscape designs to ensure they are creative, accurate, buildable, and aligned with client budgets.
  • Manage design schedules, workloads, revisions, and design-hour budgets.
  • Ensure complete and accurate construction documents and project handoffs.
  • Coordinate closely with estimating and production to ensure projects are ready for construction.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry referral partners.
  • Standardize sales and design processes and ensure consistent use of company systems.
  • Monitor key performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the team in resolving client, design, and project issues.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in residential landscape design/build.
  • Proven experience in both consultative sales and sales management.
  • Track record of selling and closing landscape design/build projects ranging from approximately $25,000 to $600,000+.
  • Strong knowledge of landscape design, planting, hardscape, grading, drainage, and construction.
  • Experience managing design teams, sales professionals, or both.
  • Strong understanding of estimating, job costing, gross margin, and change orders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with landscape design software such as Pro Landscape, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Degree or training in landscape architecture, landscape design, horticulture, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
