Job summary

The City of Miami Springs is seeking an entry-level laborer to perform a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled tasks in landscape and grounds maintenance. The regular schedule runs weekdays from 7:00 am to 3:45 pm, with attendance and punctuality essential.

Night, holiday, or weekend shifts may be required after events or emergencies. Minimum qualifications include one year of related work, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid Florida driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record; CDL preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Punctuality and reliability required.

Responsibilities

• Operates mowing, weed-eating and other landscape maintenance equipment.
• Performs manual labor for extended periods in hot or wet weather.
• Cleans up litter and maintains culverts, gutters, ditches, swales and drains.
• Inspects and maintains assigned equipment; reports defects to supervisor.
• Performs duties in conformance with safety standards.

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

This is an entry-level laborer position that performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled work in the maintenance of landscapes, grounds, parks, alleys, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and/or storm drainage facilities. The regular work schedule is weekdays from 7:00 am sharp to 3:45 pm.

Punctuality and regular attendance are a must.

NOTE: Individuals in this classification may be required to work holidays, evenings, weekends, and immediately after natural disasters.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operates mowing, weed-eating, and other landscape maintenance equipment. May operate a truck or other heavy automotive equipment.
• Performs manual labor for extended periods in hot or wet weather.
• Cleans up litter from public grounds and areas around buildings. Empties outdoor trash/recycling receptacles. Maintains culverts, gutters, ditches, swales, drains, canal banks, etc.
• Cleans, inspects, and maintains assigned equipment. Reports defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned. Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of related work experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Florida driver's license with a good driving record (CDL license preferred)
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be punctual and reliable

This position is covered under the City of Miami Springs General Pension Plan which requires a mandatory pre-tax contribution, which is 5.34% for fiscal year 2026-27.

Veterans' Preference points are awarded in accordance with F.S. 295.07.
