Job summary

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Landscape Technician I with the Water & Sewer department. The employee performs semiskilled and technical work, assisting in designing landscaped areas and preparing and maintaining sites; performs related tasks as required.

This is manual labor involving operation of light equipment, supervising crews, and enforcing safety regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with landscaping experience.
• Experience in landscaping and ability to operate light equipment and perform semiskilled tasks.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license; pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in mowing, planting, pruning, seeding, spraying, fertilizing and related maintenance activities.
• Operate mower for rights-of-way, parks and public grounds.
• Plant flowers, trees; apply pesticides and fertilizers.
• Lead crew in maintenance and repair of landscaped areas.
• Assign equipment to employees; monitor work quality and quantity.
• Ensure safety of operations; enforce safety regulations.
• Irrigate newly planted trees, shrubs, bushes and flowers.
• Operate tractors, mowers and trucks; perform minor and preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Assist in snow removal.
• Perform related tasks as required.
