Qualifications

Department Information

Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IndianaUniversity (IU) campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainablewhile supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, andcommunity engagement across the entire university. A unit withinCapitalProjects , ConstructionManagement provides project management services for IU capitalprojects. Construction Management staff coordinate the efforts ofeveryone involved on IU Capital projects - external contractors, IUCapital Projects staff, and our university partners - ensuringprojects are completed on schedule, on budget, and in accordancewith university guidelines and safety standards.

Job Summary

The Landscape Architecture Leader provides strategic leadership forlandscape architecture services supporting Indiana University'scapital planning, campus development, and construction programs.This position is particularly critical given its responsibility forproviding landscape architecture leadership and direction for theBloomington campus, which is widely recognized as one of the mostbeautiful college campuses in the nation. Maintaining and enhancingthe character, functionality, and aesthetic quality of the campusenvironment requires dedicated professional leadership to ensurecapital investments align with the university's long-term visionand preserve one of Indiana University's most valued assets.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Serves as the university's subject matter expert for landscapearchitecture, establishing campus design standards, guiding complexcapital projects, managing consultant relationships, and ensuringthe long-term stewardship of university landscapes.
• Provides university-wide influence, leads business-criticalinitiatives, and advises leadership on landscape planning,sustainability, accessibility, and campus developmentstrategies.

General Responsibilities

• Contributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategicplanning and the highest-level operational objectives for landscapearchitecture areas.
• Establishes long-term business plans and long-term strategicobjectives.
• Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to landscapearchitecture teams.
• Responsible for escalated operational issues, including humanresources and/or people management situations.
• Drives innovation and excellence within the area of landscapearchitecture; reviews and creates policies and procedures.
• Determines overall budget for landscape architecture teams;reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reportingleaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that requirefrequent interaction with executive leaders.
• Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or fundingopportunities; develops business relationships across theuniversity and externally.
• Stays up-to-date on new landscape architecture standards,procedures, tools and safety requirements and works collaborativelywith other landscape architecture leaders across departments and/orcampuses in determining standards, best practices, and relatedpolicies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation bydirect reporting leaders.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, orrelated field.

Preferred

• Master's degree in landscape architecture.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 5 years in landscape architecture, construction projectmanagement, institutional works, public works, parks andrecreation, planning, or related field.
• 3 years of management experience in relevant field.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Registered Landscape Architect within the state of Indiana upondate of hire.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary positionas well as the ability to move about the workplace for longdurations. It requires effective communication, the ability tooperate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires theability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one'sself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/orgases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and movein tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person inthis role must be able to perform the essential functions with orwithout an accommodation.

This positions requires the occasional travel to work from theIndianapolis, Indiana campus.

Advertised Salary

This position is approved with a salary range of $118,000 -$125,000.00.
