Job summary

HNTB Corporation in New York is looking for a planning and design professional to join our Urban Design, Landscape Architecture and Planning practice. The role focuses on field work, construction-phase support, observing park and public space designs, and assisting with streetscapes and transit-oriented design.

The candidate will work outdoors with contractors, contribute to design development, and engage in client coordination and public outreach within a dynamic multi-discipline team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field.
  • 4+ years of related professional experience for the bachelor’s degree or 3+ years for the master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates, evaluates, and recommends design and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
  • Leads discrete technical tasks from conceptual planning through construction documentation for landscape architecture and urban design tasks.
  • Develops conceptual, design development and construction-level plans and technical specifications using CAD software.
  • Develops preliminary design concepts, technical solutions, studies, graphics, models, animation, photo-simulations, illustrations, and reports.
  • Coordinates with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete tasks.
  • Leads the production of 3D graphics and renderings using the latest software.
  • Presents project work to client and community groups.
  • Supports public outreach coordination and facilitation.
  • Assists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFPs.
  • May oversee the work and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

HNTB is seeking a highly motivated planning and design professional to join our growing Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Planning practice within the New York Planning and Environment Group. The role will initially focus on field work and construction-phase support, including observing the execution of park and public space designs, reviewing plans and shop drawing submittals, supporting plant and materials selections, and contributing to construction oversight. The role may also support the planning and design of streetscapes, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, greenways, transit station areas, urban and land-use plans, wetland mitigation, and landscape restoration efforts for major infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will be interested in working outdoors in the field alongside contractors and clients and should enjoy working in a dynamic, multi-discipline environment.

What You’ll Do:
  • Investigates, evaluates, and recommends the design and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
  • Leads discrete technical tasks from conceptual planning and concept development through construction documentation for landscape architecture and urban design tasks.
  • Develops conceptual, design development and construction-level plans and technical specifications for urban design and landscape architecture (layout plans, planting plans, grading plans and construction details) using CAD software.
  • Develops preliminary design concepts, technical solutions, studies, graphics, models, animation, photo-simulations, illustrations, and reports for projects.
  • Assists in the direction of landscape architectural, land planning, transportation, and urban design projects from concept development through working or submission drawings, and final urban design plans.
  • Coordinates with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
  • Leads the production of 3D graphics and renderings using the latest software.
  • Presents project work to client and community groups.
  • Supports public outreach coordination and facilitation.
  • Assists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP’s.
  • May oversee the work and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:

Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field and 4 years of related professional experience, or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or related field and 3 years of related professional experience

What You’ll Bring:
  • Intermediate design and production skills with construction/ technical competency (i.e., PS&E) with oversight from more experienced staff.
  • Attention to detail with a high level of construction/technical competency.
  • Confidence in providing project updates and concerns to clients and team members.
  • Strong organization sills
  • Proficiency with one or more CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.), 3D visualization software (Sketchup, Rhino, Revit, Lumion, etc.), and graphics software (Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Provides guidance to less experienced staff.
What We Prefer:
  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture Registered Landscape Architect (RLA),/Professional Landscape Architect (PLA),

The approximate pay range for New York is $93,022.31 - $139,533.46. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
