Toole Design Group in Oakland, CA is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Landscape Architect / Designer III. This is an opportunity to be part of a passionate, creative, talented team of planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers. Candidates should have 6+ years of progressive experience in landscape architecture, including concept through final design, with strong project management and business development skills. The role involves re-imagining public spaces that promote livable and equitable communities with diverse mobility options, working on streetscape, public space, trails, and active transportation projects with unique challenges that foster creative and critical thinking. This position will lead public realm and active transportation projects across California and the West, covering all design phases from community engagement to final design. Collaboration with clients, community members, and interdisciplinary teams is essential, along with a focus on project management and business growth. The salary range is targeted at $90,000 to $105,000.

The work schedule is flexible, typically 40 hours per week, with options to work from home two days a week. The Oakland office is conveniently located downtown, accessible by foot, bike, and transit.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in landscape architecture
  • 6+ years of progressive experience
  • Experience across all project phases: site analysis, concept design, planting design, construction documents, and specifications
  • Strong visual communication skills, including hand sketching and digital graphics
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and 3D visualization tools (e.g., Lumion, Rhino)
  • Strong project management experience, including staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control
  • Passion for public realm design, multimodal transportation, and urban placemaking

Preferred qualifications:

  • Licensure in CA or other states (or on licensure path)
  • Expertise in planting design and green infrastructure
  • Experience with trail, streetscape, or multimodal design
  • Public engagement experience, including facilitation of workshops
