Job summary

Requires a Bachelor's or higher in Landscape Architecture and Arizona licensure, with at least five years’ experience as a licensed landscape architect on transportation projects. Remote work may be available within Arizona.

Job Summary:

As a registered Landscape Architect provides the first level of technical review for in house and consultant produced design work products. Develop quality control procedures for landscape architectural work. Directly supervise employee and their work in Landscape Architect Design Service of Roadside Development Section. Sealing Landscape Architectural plans and specifications, including plans for planting, irrigation, aesthetic items, landform graphics, walks, paths, hardscapes, erosion control and revegetation. Provides scope of work for and monitor consultants design proposals, proposed hours and fee estimates. Review inter -governmental Landscape Maintenance Agreements. Make recommendations to Section Manager regarding new or needed policy changes in technical areas.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Supervise, direct, and provide technical expertise for service employees and consultants designing projects requiring considerable professional judgement and creative effort. Participate and coordinate technical reviews.

Direct the preparation and review of landscape architectural plans, specifications, research, reports and other material making sure they are compatible landscape architecture with engineering plans and requirements from within ADOT and from the consultants, recommending corrections for implementation.

Compose and authorize correspondence dealing with public and project level issues. Make oral presentations, prepare technical administrative and status for use at the Section, Group and Division Level.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

• Visual quality determination, site planning, grading, erosion control, plant materials, landscape design, soil analysis.
• State statutes, Department Regulations, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
• Procedures used to analyze and evaluate landscape architectural data.
• Plant materials, water and horticulture requirements, vegetation control methods, revegetation, desert and wetland restoration design.
• Clean Water and Clean Air Act and requirements.
• Microstation CADD and other design software, sketchup, in house design.

Skill in:

• Use of Landscape Architectural knowledge and apply to solutions and incorporation into construction documents.
• Us of CADD computer for development of plans and specifications.

Ability to:

• Assimilate diverse technical knowledge for solving complex project requirements.
• To abstract concepts and analyze and formulate them into more subjective organization for developing processes and appropriate standards.

Selective Preference(s):

Know the plant materials and horticulture requirements for urban and agronomic requirements for revegetation and vegetation control.

Understanding of pesticides, horticulture practices, maintenance requirements, Clean Water and Clean Air Act, Native Plant law.

Knowing the state and federal weed laws and appropriate methods of control.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Bachelor, or higher degree in Landscape Architecture.

Registration as a Professional Landscape Architect in Arizona.

Five (5) years minimum as a registered Landscape Architect working on transportation projects.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
