Position Summary

This non-union position performs tasks involving physical labor, basic cleanup and maintenance, and operation of equipment at our Landfill in Becker, MN. The role includes picking and screening unacceptable waste and recyclables, directing landfill traffic flow, and assisting with baling of cardboard, plastics, and aluminum for recycling. It also involves lawn care, grounds maintenance, and snow removal as needed.

A Day in the Life
  • Operate landfill equipment as necessary. Equipment includes dozer, compactor, water truck, skid steer, backhoe.
  • Perform general maintenance on landfill equipment.
  • Screen loads for unacceptable waste and valuable recyclables.
  • Direct landfill traffic to ensure safe delivery of waste into the landfill.
  • Screen and sort load dumps in the transfer station building.
  • Bale cardboard, plastic, aluminum.
  • Perform lawn care maintenance activities and general grounds maintenance.
  • Picks up windblown debris/litter generated from facility operations.
  • Provide backup assistance with operation of the weigh scale.
  • Assist customers with transactions.
  • Assist Landfill Manager with other facets of landfill operation as requested.
  • Follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Bring problems to the attention of the Landfill Manager or Safety Director.
  • Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
  • Keep supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, that may affect the ability to successfully perform tasks.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned by management.
What You’ll Need
  • Six to twelve months of construction or related experience.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to work with equipment, materials, and supplies found in construction work.
  • Ability to view and abide by safety training video.
  • Ability to follow proper use and safety guidelines.
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety precautions and procedures.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written when working with all levels of management and employees, external vendors and other business associates.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills.
  • Basic mathematic skills (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency as required by management and/or project requirements.
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
  • OSHA 10 is preferred but not required.
  • First Aid/CPR is preferred but not required.
  • Type III Landfill Certification is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by any employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Often required to sit, stand, walk, bend knees, stretch arms, talk and hear. Occasionally required to stoop or kneel. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Able to work extended hours (up to 12 per day) during peak periods.

Work Environment

Employee is exposed to environmental conditions, working near machines and loud noises associated with construction sites. Exposed to variable weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, cold and heat.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a starting wage of $25.00 per hour, with opportunities for higher pay depending on your experience. The base salary range may vary depending on geographic location, applicant skills, and prior relevant experience.
