Job summary

Gaston County Government's Solid Waste & Recycling Division seeks a hands-on worker to support disposal, recycling, and maintenance tasks at the county landfill. The role requires operating loaders and related equipment, handling paperwork, and assisting with events as needed.

The position involves outdoor work, exposure to weather, and a criminal background check plus drug screening. A valid NC driver's license is essential, and weekend shifts occur every other Saturday.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License without driving restrictions.
• Ability to work varying schedules (6:00 am–6:30 pm Mon–Fri, 8:00 am–5:00 pm Sat every other weekend).
• Landscaping and carpentry skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs tire stacking and handles paperwork for tire collection.
• Inspects and cleans heavy equipment radiators and landfill vehicles.
• Collects recyclables and restocks supplies at sites as needed.
• Performs landscaping tasks including mowing and edging; cleans around curbs.
• Gathers litter, maintains litter fences, and controls dust and traffic flow.
• Fuels heavy equipment daily to keep operations running.
