Job summary

SCS Engineers in Modesto, CA is seeking a Field Technician to operate, maintain, and monitor landfill gas control systems, gaining hands-on experience while protecting the environment.

You will work with senior staff on planning, perform field measurements, sampling, and basic maintenance; PPE will be provided; travel may be required; salary ranges from $25 to $32 per hour, with full-time status and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• 1 year of environmental control system OM&M experience required; landfill gas experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Smartphones/Tablets and Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Must have a valid driver's license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain gas collection systems to keep them compliant with operating parameters.
• Perform routine wellfield balancing, blower/flare operations, condensate management, and surface emissions monitoring.
• Assist in planning tasks and daily Crew Activity Plans (CAP) with senior staff.
• Conduct field observations, take logs, and communicate findings to supervisors.
• Use field instruments for data collection and calibration; manage sampling and chain of custody.

How you can make an impact

• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to operate and maintain gas collection system on a cost‑effective basis to keep systems operating and in compliance with different prescribed operating parameters and goals, including:
  • Routine wellfield balancing and maintenance
  • Routine blower / flare operations
  • Condensate management system operations and maintenance
  • Surface emissions monitoring
• Working knowledge of and compliance with SCS policies and procedures, with a primary focus on:
  • The SCS Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) as it pertains to the SCS Health & Safety program.
  • The SCS Quality Management System as it pertains to the quality of our work; and,
  • The SCS Standards of Business Conduct and Ethics as they pertain to our behavior as employee owners at SCS.
• Takes on more responsibility when working with senior staff in the planning and execution of assigned tasks, including daily Crew Activity Plans (CAP), monitoring, and/or adjustment of various environmental control system components.
• Performs moderate‑level maintenance and repairs of various environmental control system components.
• Conducts field observations/actions and reports those observations/actions by way of field notes and daily logs. Under the direction of a supervisor, may prepare verbal and written client communications.
• Utilize field instruments to measure required environmental control system data, including calibration and proper care and handling of field instruments.
• Performs environmental sampling using collection canisters and Tedlar bags and is trained in the preparation of chain of custody documents for shipment.
• Conducts preliminary review of collected data with oversight from supervisor. Required to communicate review of data to a supervisor or other designee for further direction.
• Performs operational adjustments to environmental control system components in conjunction with the results of preliminary data reviews.
• Utilize the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials to maintain and repair environmental control system components.
• Assists Laborers, Field Technician I, Senior Field Technicians, or other staff with removal and servicing of landfill liquids pumps.
• Provide limited direction to vendors or subcontractors following authorization by supervisor.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 1 year of environmental control system OM&M experience is required. Landfill gas experience is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge in the use of various computer/technology skills including Smartphones, Tablets, and Microsoft Office Programs (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel) required.
• Must have a valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing is required.
• Must meet physical requirements and pass a human performance evaluation (HPE).
  • Physical requirements include driving (pick‑up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting, and carrying equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying, and climbing ladders, operating manlifts and working from man lifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions.

Pay Range

USD $25.00 - USD $32.00 /Hr.
