Job summary

LUMA Energy in Puerto Rico is seeking a Geomatics Engineering professional to apply surveying and geodesy knowledge to investigate, evaluate, and certify land rights documents for the Transmission and Distribution system.

You will conduct field visits, review cadaster records, provide geospatial analysis, and support compliance, with travel up to 40%. The role requires a Land Surveyor license and 3 years' experience.

Qualifications

  • 3 years' experience in land surveying and geospatial data analysis.
  • Experience with GIS software and CAD; ability to interpret land documents and regulations.
  • Experience using surveying instruments and mapping platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts field visits and reviews cadaster documents to certify easements.
  • Represents the organization in court as an expert witness.
  • Develops procedures for retaining and managing land documents.
  • Provides cadastral management and geospatial analysis support.
  • Supports storm restoration and emergency response tasks.

Job Summary

Applies knowledge of surveying and geodesy to investigate, evaluate, interpret, and certify documents related to property rights of the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Electrical System Cadaster, ensuring accuracy, legal compliance, and reliable land management.

Job Description
  • Conducts field visits and researcher cadaster documents, evaluates legal and historical records, survey maps, plans, and drawings applying Geospatial Science and Technology, and corroborates survey data and deliverables to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and issuance of easement or legal rights certifications for the system.
  • Represents the organization in court as an expert or witness to interpret certifications issued and resolve matters related to easement or property rights of the system, ensuring legal compliance and supporting organizational interests.
  • Develops and implements procedures for retaining and managing original land documents, establishes methodologies for their controlled use, and proposes contingency plans to mitigate risks and maintain compliance in case of document loss.
  • Provides expertise in cadastral management and geospatial analysis to support the development and implementation of effective solutions.
  • Monitors compliance and process effectiveness to ensure alignment with policies and continuous improvement.
  • Delivers training and guidance to stakeholders to enhance understanding and adoption of best practices.
  • Follows established company policies, procedures, and standards to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and industry regulations.
  • Participates in storm restoration tasks and assigned drills to contribute to the safe and reliable recovery of services.
  • Performs additional tasks aligned with role expectations and qualifications to support team goals and operational flexibility.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Geomatics Engineering
Experience
  • 3 years' experience in land surveying, geospatial data analysis, mapping, and interpretation of property boundaries, including reporting, process improvement, and technical support for cadastral and easement documentation.
  • Experience interpreting survey data, plans, and applying geodesy principles to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Experience using surveying instruments, Geographic Information System platforms, and related business systems or analytic tools.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) software (mapping and spatial analysis tools), Network design and asset management tools, computes aided design (CAD) software, Online mapping and geospatial platforms, and Geodetic and coordinate reference tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a well-rounded technical aptitude. Strong organizational skills.
  • Requires strong interpersonal, relationship development and teamwork skills with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
