Job summary

Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. is seeking a Land Surveyor to join our Geospatial Data Services team in Rochester, MN. This full-time position involves field surveys (boundary, topographic, construction), data reduction, and drafting support, with collaboration across project teams.

Travel is required, and experience with Trimble/AutoCAD is preferred. SEH operates as an employee-owned firm with a robust benefits package. Location in Rochester, MN; relocation considered for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Willingness and ability to work overtime as project schedules require.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Ability to walk and climb over rough terrain and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors for 8–12 hours in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to travel for projects, meetings, and overnight stays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with field surveys across multiple project types, including boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
• Support data reduction, digital terrain modeling, and surface creation.
• Prepare right-of-way plats, certified survey maps, boundary surveys, and other survey-related documents.
• Assist with drafting and survey computations.
• Collaborate with project teams while maintaining the ability to work independently in the field.
• Travel as needed to support project demands.

Essential Qualifications

• Willingness and ability to work overtime as project schedules require

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Experience with basic surveying procedures, including:

  • Boundary and land surveys

  • Topographic surveys

  • Construction staking methods using Total Stations and GPS

• Experience with drafting, survey computations, and interpreting plans and easement descriptions

• Field experience using Trimble survey equipment

• Working knowledge of:

  • AutoCAD

  • Trimble Business Center

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)

This position requires an MVR records check verifying that you possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record which meets the requirements of SEH’s Driving Program.
