We're looking for a Survey Technician or Crew Chief to perform field operations, work with a licensed surveyor and other field personnel, and help deliver accurate, high-quality survey work that supports projects in the communities we serve.
In this role, you'll work mostly in the field, operate surveying equipment, and coordinate daily activities to keep projects moving forward safely and efficiently. From boundary and topographic surveys to construction staking, you'll play an important part in bringing projects to life. If you enjoy working outdoors, leading others, and taking pride in a job well done, there's a place for you at OWN.
What you’ll be doing:
You'll lead survey crews in the field, helping collect the accurate data that brings projects to life. Along the way, you'll:
- Perform daily field operations for boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys, ensuring safe and efficient work.
- Operate GPS, robotic total stations, drones and scanners, and other surveying equipment to collect accurate field measurements and data.
- Interpret plans, legal descriptions, surveys and project requirements to plan fieldwork and maintain quality standards.
- Train and guide field crew members while coordinating schedules, equipment, and daily project needs.
- Collaborate with surveyors, project managers, and office teams to communicate progress, resolve challenges, and ensure accurate project deliverables.
What we’re looking for:
- Preferably 1+ years in land surveying experience, including all types of surveying. Any and all experience will be considered.
- Proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, and other surveying equipment, along with a strong understanding of survey practices is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work with other survey personnel, and have strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, or similar software; PLS or LSIT certification is preferred, but not required.
- Valid driver's license, willingness to travel to project sites, and ability to perform the physical demands of fieldwork is required.
Why OWN?
- At OWN, ownership means something. We’re 100% employee-owned, equitably, and we help our OWNers understand how the business performs, how their work impacts it, and how that connects to the value they’re building.
- Trust and autonomy. You’re empowered to make decisions and take ownership of your work without unnecessary layers.
- Room to make an impact. Your ideas are heard, and you’ll have a real say in how your team works, improves, and grows.
- Flexibility that’s real. The freedom to be a professional. The freedom to be a person.
- People you actually enjoy working with. We take the work seriously, but not ourselves. Good people, low egos, plenty of laughs along the way.
Benefits
We take care of the people who take care of the work. That includes:
- Employee ownership (ESOP) at no cost to you
- 401(k) with a 3% company contribution
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 16 days of PTO plus 8 paid holidays, growing with tenure
- Paid parental leave
