You will assist the survey crew with field measurements, equipment setup, monument searches, stakes, and other daily field operations while learning proper procedures in a safe, team environment.

R. J. Fuselier & Associates, L.L.C. (RJF&A), doing business as Fuselier Surveying & Mapping, is seeking a dependable and motivated Land Survey Rodman to work alongside our party chiefs and instrument personnel in performing boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction, flood-elevation, and other types of land surveys.

This is an entry-level field position and an excellent opportunity for someone interested in beginning a career in the land surveying profession. The Rodman assists the survey crew with field measurements, equipment setup, monument and property-corner searches, construction staking, and other daily field operations. Previous surveying experience is helpful but not required. Training will be provided to the right candidate.

The successful candidate must enjoy working outdoors, be willing to learn, follow instructions carefully, and contribute to a safe and productive crew environment. Opportunities are available for advancement into Instrument Man, Party Chief, and other positions as skills and experience are developed.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Party Chief and Instrument Man with daily surveying operations
• Carry and properly position survey rods, prisms, tripods, stakes, and other field equipment
• Assist with setting survey stakes, hubs, nails, monuments, and other field markings
• Search for and help uncover property corners, survey monuments, and other evidence
• Clear brush and establish lines of sight when necessary
• Measure distances using tapes and other basic field tools
• Mark field locations with flagging, paint, stakes, and other materials
• Help load, unload, clean, organize, and maintain survey vehicles and equipment
• Learn proper field procedures, surveying terminology, data-collection practices, and basic equipment operation
• Follow crew instructions, project requirements, and established quality-control procedures
• Observe all company and project-specific safety requirements
• Maintain a professional attitude when working with coworkers, clients, contractors, landowners, and the public
• Perform other field-related duties as assigned

Requirements

No previous land surveying experience required; construction, utility, agricultural, outdoor, or related field experience is a plus

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to work effectively as part of a survey crew

Willingness to travel to regional job sites and occasionally work out of town

Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Ability to regularly work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold and wet or muddy conditions

Ability to safely walk and work in rugged terrain, wooded areas, construction sites, and remote locations

Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and carry field equipment and materials

Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Ability to work overtime and weekends as project schedules require

Ability to report to work consistently and on time

Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen
