Job summary

Control Point Associates, Inc. in New York, NY is seeking an Instrument Operator to join a leading surveying team. The role covers field surveying, data collection, and collaboration with project teams across construction and development projects.

You will work with Trimble/Leica/Spectre total stations, data collectors, GPS RTK, and 3D scanning tools while expanding your skillset through in-field and office-based tasks. Opportunities for advancement and ongoing training are available.

Qualifications

• Entry level (1-3 years) in boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys and stakeout.
• Experience with robotic total stations (Trimble, Spectra, Leica) and data collectors.
• Strong math and computer skills; willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Perform field surveying including construction stakeout, boundary analyses, topographic surveys, and as-built surveys using total stations, data collectors, and GPS RTK.
• Carry out field calculations, sketches, and data checks for accuracy.
• Maintain and handle equipment and vehicles; ensure safety and proper setup on-site.
• Represent the company professionally to clients and team members; perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• Carefully and diligently perform all phases of field surveying including Construction Stakeout, Topographical Surveys, Preliminary Boundary Analysis/Stake Out, and As-Built surveys while utilizing tools like Trimble/Leica/Spectre robotic total stations, data collectors, auto-levels, GPS RTK Units, wireless communications, 3D Laser Scanners, etc.
• Conduct field calculations and sketches; downloading and checking data while being held accountable to accuracy of all survey documents.
• Maintain and take care of all company equipment and vehicles and ensuring setup is in a secure environment with proper safety precautions in place.
• Positively represent the brand while communicating professionally and regularly with customers on-site.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Entry level (1-3 years of experience) performing boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys, construction stakeout, etc.
• Experience using robotic total stations (Trimble, Spectre, Leica), data collector, auto levels, GPS RTK Unit, and familiarity with AutoCAD a plus.
• High School Diploma and strong math and computer skills.
• The ability and desire to expand your skillsets and adapt to new technologies.
• Ability to complete additional certificates, (OSHA (10, 30, 40, etc.), Hazwoper, TWIC, etc.)
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work overtime as needed and travel with overnight stays if required.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand/walk for 8+ hours a day.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Pay Range: $18-$25+ per hour depending on experience
