Job summary

Control Point Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Instrument Operator to join our Virginia Beach, VA team.

You will perform field surveying, stakeouts, topographic surveys, and boundary work using Trimble, Leica, and Spectra robotic total stations, data collectors, and GPS RTK units. The role requires 1–3 years of related experience, a high school diploma, strong math skills, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Entry level (1–3 years) experience in boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys, and construction stakeout.
  • Experience using robotic total stations (Trimble, Spectra, Leica), data collectors, auto levels, GPS RTK units; familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • High School Diploma and strong math and computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel with overnight stays if required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field surveying including construction stakeout, topographical surveys, boundary analysis, and as-built surveys using Trimble/Leica/Spectra equipment.
  • Conduct field calculations and sketches and ensure accuracy of survey documents.
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles and ensure safe, secure operations.
  • Represent the company professionally to customers on-site.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
  • Carefully and diligently perform all phases of field surveying including Construction Stakeout, Topographical Surveys, Preliminary Boundary Analysis/Stake Out, and As‑Built surveys while utilizing tools like Trimble/Leica/Spectre robotic total stations, data collectors, auto‑levels, GPS RTK Units, wireless communications, 3D Laser Scanners, etc.
  • Conduct field calculations and sketches; downloading and checking data while being held accountable to accuracy of all survey documents.
  • Maintain and take care of all company equipment and vehicles and ensuring setup is in a secure environment with proper safety precautions in place.
  • Positively represent the brand while communicating professionally and regularly with customers on‑site.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Entry level (1‑3 years of experience) performing boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys, construction stakeout, etc.
  • Experience using robotic total stations (Trimble, Spectre, Leica), data collector, auto levels, GPS RTK Unit, and familiarity with AutoCAD a plus.
  • High School Diploma and strong math and computer skills.
  • The ability and desire to expand your skillsets and adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to complete additional certificates, (OSHA (10, 30, 40, etc.), Hazwoper, TWIC, etc.)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed and travel with overnight stays if required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for 8+ hours a day.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Pay Range: $19-$25+ per hour depending on experience
  • Additional Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401(k) match, paid time off, and more.
