Job summary

VHB’s Vermont offices seek an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead multidisciplinary site/civil engineering efforts for public- and private-sector projects, including ski resorts, real estate, renewable energy, infill development, and municipal infrastructure.

Working alongside talented professionals, you’ll help transform complex site challenges into practical, sustainable solutions from planning through design and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s degree a plus.
  • 11+ years of professional site/civil design experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD; GIS experience a plus.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license required.
  • Knowledge of VT land entitlement process and local/state permitting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop site/civil engineering plans and specs for public and private projects with focus on sustainability and resiliency.
  • Lead civil engineering for retail, residential, institutional, renewable energy and industrial site design including grading, drainage, utility design, and site layout.
  • Prepare and review design criteria, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare schematic design, design development, and construction contract documentation.
  • Lead preparation of permitting, design and construction documents.
  • Lead, mentor and train junior staff; manage project financials.
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to discuss design/permitting issues.
  • Technical and design report writing.

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing Vermont offices are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our collaborative Land Development team. In this role, you’ll lead multidisciplinary site/civil engineering efforts for a diverse range of public- and private-sector projects—including ski resorts, real estate, renewable energy, infill development, and state and municipal infrastructure.

VHB’s growing Vermont offices are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our collaborative Land Development team. In this role, you’ll lead multidisciplinary site/civil engineering efforts for a diverse range of public- and private-sector projects—including ski resorts, real estate, renewable energy, infill development, and state and municipal infrastructure. Working alongside talented professionals across VHB’s integrated service areas, you’ll help clients transform complex site challenges into practical, sustainable, and lasting solutions. From early planning and permitting through design and delivery, you’ll guide projects that strengthen communities, support economic growth, and create places where people and businesses can thrive.

Responsibilities
  • Work independently with integrated teams of engineers, environmental scientists, and landscape architects in developing site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude and public and private projects with a focus on sustainability and resiliency
  • Lead and assist with civil engineering for retail, residential, institutional, renewable energy and industrial site design including grading and drainage design, utility design, and site layout
  • Preparation and/or reviewing of design criteria, drawings and specifications
  • Preparation of schematic design, design development, and construction contract documentation
  • Lead the preparation of permitting, design and construction documents
  • Lead, mentor and train junior staff
  • Project task financial performance, and management of projects
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues
  • Technical and design report writing
Skills And Abilities
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with other emerging professionals and managers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office, virtual, and field environment, in rural or urban environments
  • Proven strong work-ethic and self-motivated to produce high quality outcomes
  • Highly organized, and detail oriented, with ability to think creatively and formulate solutions in team environment
  • Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study required, Master’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • 11+ years of professional site/civil design engineering experience, including consulting/private sector experience, required
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD required, GIS experience a plus
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license required
  • Solid understanding of the typical land entitlement process in VT including permitting at the local and state level preferred

The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in Vermont, is $125,000 to $160,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
