Job summary

BKF Engineers is seeking a Project Engineer for our Sacramento, CA office. You will apply civil engineering principles to a range of land development projects—from residential subdivisions to major infrastructure—designing site layouts, utilities, and drainage with minimal supervision.

The role emphasizes collaboration, mentorship of junior staff, and support across project phases, with opportunities for professional growth and cross-office teamwork.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in Land Development working on site development and design of residential and/or commercial subdivisions, utility systems, roadways, and public works projects.
• ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil Engineering is required; EIT certification is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate site development projects for residential, commercial, mixed-use, and public works developments.
• Prepare grading and drainage plans per local/regional standards; design water, sewer, and stormwater utilities.
• Prepare technical reports, master planning studies, and entitlement support documents.
• Develop construction specifications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
• Prepare site layouts including parking, access, and circulation; integrate sustainable design elements.
• Ensure compliance with Federal, State, City, and County codes and permitting requirements.
• Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
