Job summary

The City of Wilson, NC is seeking a qualified City Planning professional to perform technical planning duties and support city growth. The role involves reviewing site plans, subdivisions, and zoning, coordinating with developers, and preparing notices and maps.

A GIS background is essential, with experience in ArcGIS software and public presentations to boards and the public. Education requires a bachelor's or master's in a related field; 1–3 years' experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience or service.
• CFM preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months; AICP/CZO preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews site plans, subdivisions, and street closings; consults with developers, engineers, and surveyors; serves on Technical Review Committee.
• Prepares legal ads and rezoning/street closing notices.
• Prepares case write-ups and supporting documentation.
• Creates graphic displays for public hearings; drafts resolutions and ordinances; records ordinances and plats.
• Maintains files/records; updates GIS data; produces maps.
• Administers floodplain ordinance and CRS; communicates with public; issues annual letters.
• Administers zoning/subdivision regulations; reviews applications; notifies adjacent properties; presents to Board; drafts Board orders.
• Responds to inquiries; conducts trainings; prepares technical studies for Council/Boards.
