Job summary

David Weekley Homes is looking for a Land Development Manager in Salt Lake City to drive the growth of our Land and Home Building Teams. The candidate will manage the development of residential lots, oversee outside contractors, and assess new land acquisitions. A strong background in residential land development, along with budgeting skills and a relevant degree, is preferred.

Job Description

David Weekley Homes is seeking a Land Development Manager to help advance the growth and profitability goals of the Land and Home Building Teams in our Salt Lake City Division. This role is essential for guiding land opportunities from initial evaluation to successful lot delivery, ensuring projects are well-planned and financially sound. This individual will drive strategic alignment and high-impact collaboration across all cross-functional partners to support the division's sustained growth and strategic direction.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage the development of residential lots in new communities.
  • Participate in due diligence review, underwriting, and approvals for proposed new land acquisitions.
  • Manage and oversee the efforts of outside parties (engineers, planners, contractors, city representatives, joint venture partners) as needed to accomplish the two above objectives.
  • Work interactively with VP of Land and Land Acquisition Managers to assess the feasibility of potential land purchases.
  • Perform budget review of potential land purchases, work with Land Financial Analyst to prepare various project proformas to assess potential financial outcomes under various acquisition and development scenarios.
  • Produce proforma and budget projections for deals under consideration; maintain these projections on a quarterly basis throughout the life of the project.
  • Manage and oversee the development of active projects from acquisition to lot delivery.
  • Oversee the efforts of fee developers and joint venture partners for outside‑developed projects.
  • Support Land Acquisition Managers with strategic thinking, land planning ideas, pre‑planning, and development cost info during the conceptual and planning phases of communities; manage and oversee the lot delivery of active projects.
  • Review and approve all development‑related invoices on a monthly basis.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in residential land development, with the involvement in entitlement, due diligence, budgeting, and lot delivery.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, real estate or a related field is preferred.
  • Financially attuned, with confidence in proformas and spreadsheets and the ability to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD, with the ability to adapt to various tools and systems.
  • Detail‑oriented and analytical, and able to interpret civil and architectural plans with accuracy and confidence.
  • Flexible and responsive, with a willingness to travel and stay engaged where the work is happening.
