Job summary

D.R. Horton, Inc. is looking for a Land Assistant to provide administrative and project support to the Land Acquisition, Development, and Operations teams.

The role involves preparing and tracking bid letters, managing due diligence documents, and coordinating with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate should have an Associate’s degree and relevant experience, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a ++Land Assistant++. The right candidate will provide administrative and project support to the Land Acquisition, Land Development, and Land Operations teams. This role assists with the coordination of land purchase contracts, due diligence documentation, permitting, and development schedules to help ensure timely and efficient execution of land transactions and community development activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare, process, and track bid letters, purchase agreements, option contracts, amendments, and related documents

  • Assist with the collection, review, and distribution of due diligence materials (surveys, environmental reports, title commitments, zoning documents, utility letters, etc.)

  • Maintain and update electronic and hard-copy files for land acquisitions, development projects, permits, and regulatory approvals

  • Coordinate with title companies, attorneys, consultants, and municipalities to obtain required documentation and signatures for closings and development activities

  • Track key project milestones, contract deadlines, critical dates, and permit expirations to support timely execution and compliance

  • Prepare correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and presentations

  • Process invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports; monitor budget codes and verify accuracy of charges with corporate accounting

  • Support preparation of subdivision plats, legal descriptions, and exhibits for corporate and municipal submissions

  • Schedule and coordinate internal meetings, site visits, and conference calls for land and development staff

  • Assist with tracking and updating land inventory reports, project status updates, and pipeline summaries for management review

  • Prepare and distribute agendas, packets, and presentations for land committee or investment committee meetings as requested

  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company

  • Ability to work overtime

  • Ability to travel overnight

Education and/or Experience
  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school

  • Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Strong computer skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new programs/systems quickly is essential

  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities to manage large volumes of contracts, permits, and project files

  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication

  • Ability to work cooperatively with multiple departments, including construction, accounting, and legal, to support land activities

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications

  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision

  • The noise level is generally moderate

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting land acquisition, land development, or construction teams preferred

  • Familiarity with real estate contracts, municipal permitting processes, or title/escrow procedures
