Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking an experienced Lactation Consultant RN to enhance the lactation support for inpatient mothers and families. The role focuses on breastfeeding assessment, counseling, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to promote optimal breastfeeding outcomes.

The candidate will provide telephone support, develop breastfeeding protocols, and contribute to staff education while adhering to professional standards and hospital guidelines.

Qualifications

• Specialized Diploma RN with 3 years of lactation counseling experience.
• Ability to perform assessments and nursing functions.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and teaching healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

• Orients new nursing staff to newborn feeding policy and guidelines.
• Consults with interdisciplinary teams on breastfeeding protocols.
• Provides telephone information, counseling, and follow-up for pregnant and lactating women.
• Delivers breastfeeding assessment, support, and counseling in routine and high-risk situations.
• Acts as a clinical expert and consultant in breastfeeding care.
• Helps develop policies and procedures related to breastfeeding.
• Plans and conducts education for maternal/child health staff.
