Job summary

Novant HealthEast Cooper Medical Center’s Family Care team is seeking a dedicated Lactation Consultant to support mothers and babies from routine feeding to complex neonatal needs. Four 8-hour shifts weekly, starting by 8:30 a.m., with weekend and holiday rotations.

You will work with RNs, pediatricians, OBs and neonatologists to ensure safe discharge and ongoing feeding support.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Minimum of one year of experience in mother/baby care or breastfeeding education.
• Current IBCLC certification, required.
• Ability to complete skills validation and competency testing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive lactation assessments including latch and milk transfer.
• Develop and document evidence-based feeding plans for complex breastfeeding challenges.
• Collaborate with RNs, pediatricians, obstetricians and neonatologists to coordinate care and discharge planning.
• Educate families through bedside coaching, classes, and community support groups.
• Guide families on breast pumps, feeding tools and donor milk options.

Facility: East Cooper Medical Center | Location: Mount Pleasant, SC | Position Type: Full-Time | Work Schedule: Four 8-hour shifts/week starting by 8:30 a.m.; weekend and holiday rotation

What You'll Do

• Conduct comprehensive lactation assessments, including latch, positioning, milk transfer and infant weight patterns.


• Develop and document evidence-based, individualized feeding plans for complex breastfeeding challenges.


• Collaborate with RNs, pediatricians, obstetricians and neonatologists to coordinate care and safe discharge planning.


• Educate families through bedside coaching, outpatient breastfeeding classes and community support groups.


• Guide families on breast pumps, specialized feeding tools and donor milk options

What We're Looking For

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED, required.


• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.


• Minimum of one year of experience in mother/baby care orbreast feedingeducation, required.


• Current IBCLC certification, required.


• Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Excellent customer service skills.

Preferred:

• 4 Year /BachelorsDegree, preferred.


• Current RN licensure in appropriate state, preferred.
