Job summary

SA Recycling LLC is seeking hard‑working individuals for a Laborer/Weighmaster role in California. You will perform scrap sorting, yard maintenance, and operate equipment to process material and ensure safe, efficient shipping to customers.

The weighmaster duties include weighing and grading incoming loads, documenting transactions, and maintaining accurate records. Prior labor experience and bilingual ability are a plus.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus and ability to work with customers and coworkers.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and learn new tasks.

Responsibilities

• Sort scrap metal and prep materials for processing.
• Maintain a safe environment for employees, customers and visitors.
• Operate yard equipment such as a forklift and skid steer.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and report defects to supervisor.
• Prepare vehicles for processing and remove designated parts or fluids.
• Perform sweeping, shoveling and general yard cleanup as needed.
• Provide backup support across the yard and assist as required.
• Weigh inbound and outbound trucks using the scale and document loads.
• Complete all required documentation for vehicles and loads entering or leaving the yard.
• Process payments and keep accurate transaction records.
• Comply with all safety, health, environmental rules and procedures.

Job description

We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as a Laborer/Weighmaster. As a Laborer you will be responsible for picking and processing of scrap metal; yard clean up and maintenance; and other general physical labor duties to ensure the highest quality of scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, effective manner. In the Weighmaster capacity you will be responsible for the weighing and grading of incoming scrap loads.

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Responsibilities of a Laborer

• Basic sorting of scrap, as well as metal and debris in preparation for processing.
• Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
• Operate equipment such as a forklift and skid steer.
• Perform daily inspections on equipment reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
• Prepare autos for processing, such as removing of designated parts, fluids, etc.
• General labor duties that may include but not limited to sweeping, shoveling and general clean-up of any area and/or equipment throughout the yard.
• Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
• Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, & SA Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.
• Operate scale to effectively weigh all inbound and outbound trucks.
• Review, inspect, and document inbound loads.
• Complete all required documentation for vehicles and loads entering or leaving the yard.
• Process payments and keep accurate records of all transactions.

Qualifications of a Laborer

• High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.
• 1-year previous general labor in the scrap metal or construction industries preferred, experience operating truck scales highly desired.
• Ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with customers and co-workers.
• Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
• Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
