Job summary

City of Cleveland Heights is seeking a full-time Public Works Laborer to perform heavy manual labor and operate a variety of equipment. Duties include repairing sidewalks/roads, laying asphalt, snow removal, leaf collection, and related tasks as assigned.

Flexibility to work in other divisions and potential shift changes to meet department needs are required. A valid Ohio Class B CDL and a strong safety record are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform heavy manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Valid Ohio Class B CDL with excellent driving record is required.
• Experience driving large vehicles such as dump trucks preferred.
• Able to lift approximately 90 pounds and operate street maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Repair and finish roads, sidewalks and curbing; lay asphalt.
• Snow removal and leaf collection; assist other divisions as needed.
• Work third shift 11pm–7am and follow supervisor directions.

Primary responsibilities will be those identified by the supervisor of each Division including, but not limited to: the ability to safely utilize a wide variety of equipment and perform heavy physical duties. This includes, but is not limited to repairing and finishing of roads, sidewalks and curbing; laying asphalt, snow removal, collection of leaves, and other duties as assigned.

This includes, but is not limited to repairing and finishing of roads, sidewalks and curbing; laying asphalt, snow removal, collection of leaves, and other duties as assigned.

Position will require individual to be versatile to work in other Public Works Divisions as needed and the possibility of shift changes as mandated by the needs to the Department.

Typical Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must have an Ohio Commercial Driver's License (Class B) and excellent driving record
• Prefer experience driving various types of larger vehicles including pickup and dump trucks
• Must be in excellent physical condition to perform heavy manual labor outdoors in all climatic conditions
• Must have the ability to safely lift approximately 90 pounds independently
• Must have the ability to operate equipment including, but not limited to, snowplow, salt trucks, and related equipment
• Must be available to work third shift 11pm-7am
• Must be able to carry out verbal and written instructions
• Ability to work well with others
• Must assist in all other department activities as requested including leaf collection and snow / ice removal
• Reliable attendance required
