Job description

Job objective: Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of City streets and street drainage projects.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

1. Operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of City sewer, street, and street drainage projects.
2. Inspects and/or repairs street drainage systems at frequent intervals to ensure all aspects are functioning properly.
3. Performs labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying, and back-filling.
4. Operates power construction and maintenance equipment used in street, sewer, and street drainage construction and repair.
5. Responds to complaints regarding leaks in pipes; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.
6. Loads and unloads heavy objects.
7. Rakes, vacuums, and bags leaves, pine needles, and other debris during fall and winter months.
8. Assists in maintaining and repairing traffic control devices.
9. Cross training or job rotation within the Drainage and Sanitation department may be required.
10. Works successfully in extreme hot and/or cold temperatures, humidity, slippery and uneven surfaces, noise, noxious fumes, and with heavy machinery.
11. Performs other duties as assigned and required.
