Job summary

Conrad Yelvington Distributors, a CRH company, is seeking a General Laborer to assist in unloading railcars and maintaining the rail terminal facility. You will work under direction to support daily operations, promote safety, and contribute to a positive team environment.

The role requires flexibility for different shifts, adherence to safety policies, and the ability to travel to other company sites as needed. Prior labor or construction experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in construction or physical labor preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in unloading railcars and housekeeping of rail terminal site.
• Use shovels, brooms, and hand tools for unloading and site maintenance.
• Operate landscaping tools to maintain facility as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance on terminal equipment and machinery.
• May operate heavy equipment or company vehicles with training/certification.

Position Overview

Performs various manual tasks as a general laborer to assist in unloading railcars and upkeep of rail terminal facility. Fosters teamwork, positive work environment and overall safety of self and others.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Follow directions of Lead Rail or Area Manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each terminal site.
• Utilize shovels, brooms, and hand tools to unload railcars and maintain terminal site.
• Utilize lawn mower, weed eater, and other landscaping tools/equipment to maintain facility.
• Utilize hand tools and equipment to perform preventative maintenance on terminal equipment and machinery.
• May be asked to operate heavy equipment and/or company vehicles with proper training and/or certification.
• Enroll in and complete CYD’s Conductor Certification program to achieve Rail Specialist Certification to assist in train movements.
• Sets the example by following & promoting all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with subordinates, peers and superiors.
• Must be able to maintain an acceptable attendance record in a flexible work schedule.
• Must maintain at all times a strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.
• Must be available to travel and work from other company facilities as needed.
• Must possess a professional attitude while interacting with peers, contractors and the general public.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily according to Conrad Yelvington Distributors guidelines and standards.

Work Requirements

• Must pass pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and driving record review.
• Must be willing to work flexible schedule including: nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
• Must be legally authorized to work in The United States.
• Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
• Regular and timely attendance is required.
• Valid Driver’s License preferred.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Related experience, including construction or other physical labor, is preferred.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use basic hand tools.
