Pay Range: In accordance with the City of East Chicago’s Salary Ordinance passed by the Common Council.
Position Summary
- Building Maintenance (30%)
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops, and waxes building floors as appropriate.
- Cleans and disinfects bathrooms and showers.
- Cleans windows.
- Refills all dispensers as needed.
- Grounds Maintenance (10%)
- Mows and weed wacks grass.
- Trims shrubs and trees.
- Mulches around plants.
- Picks up trash on the property.
- Removes snow with blower and/or shovel.
- Puts up and takes down holiday decorations.
- Clean and maintain bus shelters and their surrounding areas.
- Equipment Cleaning (30%)
- Cleans exterior of all Transit vehicles.
- Cleans and maintains cleanliness of the interior of all Transit vehicles.
- Keeps outer office area clean and orderly.
- Keeps garage mechanical area clean and orderly.
- Preventive Maintenance (10%)
- Learn to safely operate all equipment used.
- Learn to properly maintain all equipment used.
- Checks fluid levels in equipment before use and adds more when needed.
- Assist mechanic when necessary.
- Assist in fueling all Transit vehicles.
- Notify Supervisor of equipment problems requiring additional assistance.
- Supplies Processing (5%)
- Unloads supply deliveries from trucks.
- Stores supplies appropriately.
- Notifies Supervisor of supply shortages.
- Public Service (5%)
- Interacts with members of the public in a polite, courteous, considerate, and helpful manner.
- Teamwork (5%)
- Works effectively with other members of the staff.
- Works effectively with personnel from other departments/divisions within city government.
- Attends and contributes to staff meetings on workplace issues and problem-solving.
- Supports decisions made at staff meetings.
- Safety (5%)
- Performs all job tasks in a safe manner.
- Complies with all department safety policies, rules, and regulations.
- Identifies and reports safety hazards to a Supervisor as soon as they are detected.
- Corrects safety hazards as instructed by Supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
