Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Laborer Journeyman responsible for preparing, handling, and supplying materials for use by other trades on the job site. You will load/unload equipment, erect scaffolding, level ground, tend mortar, and move concrete with care. You will guide junior workers and maintain safe, efficient site operations.

The role emphasizes teamwork, active listening, and professional communication while handling diverse tasks and ensuring quality and safety at all times.

Qualifications

• Two-year apprenticeship program completed.
• Construction experience preferred.
• Ability to operate tools and equipment listed (power/non-powered).
• Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills; detail orientation and listening abilities.
• Lifts/carries/pushes/pulls up to 50 lbs. (with help when over 50 lbs).

Responsibilities

• Load and unload equipment.

• Move and place mortar and grout between wheelbarrows and buckets.
• Perform cleanup and debris removal including sweeping, washing, and unloading or burning debris.

• Provide guidance to Laborer I, II, Helpers, and Apprentice.
• Foster positive relationships across diverse teams.

Laborer Journeyman

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a Laborer Journeyman that will be responsible for the preparation, handling, and supplying of materials to be used by other crafts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Load and unload equipment
• Erect and dismantle scaffolding (5X7X16) and staging
• Level ground for scaffolding
• Tend mortar and grout
• Lift, unload, move, set, and shovel mortar and grout between wheelbarrows and buckets
• General cleanup and clearing of debris, including sweeping, cleaning, washing, and unloading or burning debris
• Place, push, pull, and shovel concrete
• Vibrate concrete
• Provide work direction and guidance to Laborer I, II, Helpers, and Apprentice
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of two-year apprenticeship program
• Experience in construction preferred
• Ability to work with tools and equipment such as power and non-powered hand tools, vibrators, pumps, drills, and jackhammers; forklifts, skid loaders, and power buggies
• Strong teamwork orientation; positive attitude and professional customer service skills; detail orientation; active listening skills and effective communication, including an openness to diverse input and feedback
• Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements
• *Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs.
