Job summary

The Oklahoma Military Department seeks a full-time janitorial technician at the Oklahoma City Military Complex. You will perform traditional custodial services including vacuuming, mopping, glass cleaning, dusting and trash disposal, and stock bathrooms.

You will monitor supplies, place orders for drill weekends and events, inspect facilities, replace bulbs, and keep management informed of maintenance needs. A minimum of 1 year custodial experience is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of custodial tools, cleaning methods and safety practices.
• Ability to follow simple oral instructions and use hand/power tools.
• Capable of performing heavy manual labor.

Responsibilities

• Perform custodial services: vacuuming, mopping/waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, dusting and trash disposal.
• Keep bathrooms stocked and clean (toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, fixtures).
• Monitor and stock supplies; order as needed for normal operations and events.
• Inspect facilities and report maintenance needs; replace bulbs and notify supervisor.
• Communicate with customers to understand needs and keep team informed.

Basic Purpose

The purpose of this job is to perform traditional janitorial services and maintain essential janitorial supplies.

Essential Functions

• Perform traditional janitorial services to include but not limited to vacuuming carpets, mopping/waxing floors, cleaning windows/glass, dusting, and proper disposal of trash refuse. Responsible to keep bathrooms cleaned to include toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, partitions, floors, walls, fixtures, and paper supplies stocked.
• Maintains and monitors inventory of supplies needed to keep the buildings properly stocked and clean.
• Orders, receives and stocks supplies necessary as needed to keep stock levels at proper levels, not only for normal weekday operations but also to keep buildings stocked for drill weekend or big event usage.
• Continuously monitors and inspects buildings for items requiring facility maintenance. Responsible to dust and clean light fixtures and air registers on a regular basis. Replace burnt out light bulbs as needed. Notifies appropriate personnel of items requiring facility maintenance.
• Developing a clear understanding of customer’s needs and following through with dialogue to ensure communication is understood by both parties.
• Keeping others informed and up-to-date about tasks and projects by providing as much information as necessary for others to resolve common issues or problems.
• Inspects buildings and grounds to identify areas for improvement and report to supervisor the findings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and practices of custodial, general building, and mechanical trades. Ability to follow simple oral instructions; skill to use hand tools and high‑speed power tools; to perform the less skilled aspects of the mechanical and building trades; and to physically perform heavy manual labor.

Education and Experience

Requirements at this level is one (1) year experience in building or institutional custodial work.

Physical Requirements

• Applicant must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Applicant must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions (Over 95 °F and below 20 °F).
• Applicant must be able to work from various building heights.
