Job description

FLSA Status: Hourly

Supervision Received: Works under supervision of the Foreman or Crew Leader.

Supervision Given: None

Description

Performs unskilled labor to assist with road repairs and other crew assignments.

Full time, 40 hours weekly, 8-hour shift. Scheduled and unscheduled overtime may be required.

Essential Functions

2. Operates snow removal equipment.
3. Operates lawn maintenance equipment.
4. Operates tree trimming equipment.
5. Installs and repairs traffic signs.
6. Maintenance of buildings.
7. Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relations with coworkers, other City staff, and the public.
8. Ensures compliance with and promotes safe work standards and practices.
9. Performs other duties as required.
10. Coordinates with internal DPW staff.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Three years of cumulative experience in building maintenance, construction, landscaping, or a similar field preferred.
3. Valid Michigan driver’s license with no more than five points on record, and no drug or alcohol-related driving convictions.
4. Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
5. Knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment.
6. Ability to understand, speak, read, and write in English.
7. Ability to perform multiple tasks accurately and efficiently under time constraints.
8. Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
9. Ability to exercise judgment, maintain professionalism, and uphold confidentiality when necessary.
10. Ability to align with the department’s overall mission to support decision-making.
11. Ability to follow complex instructions and work within applicable guidelines.
12. Maintain professional conduct when interacting with the public, colleagues, and contractors.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands required for this role include strenuous physical activity such as walking long distances, climbing, lifting objects up to 80 pounds, and working in hazardous or difficult environments.
