Job summary

The City of Chicopee’s Facilities Department is hiring a Laborer to perform routine custodial and general labor tasks on an assigned shift, keeping the building and grounds clean, safe, and orderly. Key duties include cleaning bathrooms, floor care, lawn and snow removal, basic carpentry/electrical/plumbing with assistance, setting up events, and responding to work orders.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience.
• At least 1 year of experience in building maintenance.
• Must pass Board of Probations background check.
• Fingerprinted background check required.
• Knowledge of landscaping and snow removal equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms.
• Washes, strips, and waxes floors.
• Cleans carpet or hard flooring as needed.
• Mows lawns, string trimming, raking, and leaf blowing.
• Cleans areas outside building.
• Vacuums and dusts inside the building.
• Responds to work orders as needed.
• Assist with small carpentry, electrical and plumbing tasks.
• Set up events and assist with tear down.
• Room changes and shift coverage as needed.
• Snow removal and ice melt application.
• Other duties as assigned.

Certifications/Licenses Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training ; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee’s Facilities Department is hiring a Laborer. The Laborer is responsible for the performance of routine custodial and general laborer duties during an assigned shift, to maintain the building and adjacent grounds in a clean, orderly, safe, and secure condition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms.
• Washes, strips, and waxes floors
• Cleans carpet or hard flooring as needed.
• Mows lawns, string trimming, rakes, and leaf blows.
• Cleans areas outside building.
• Vacuums; cleans, and dusts inside the building as needed.
• Enters, responds to work orders as needed or assigned.
• Does small carpentry, electrical and plumbing work with assistance.
• Set up events, help with tear down and cleaning after events
• Room changeovers
• Shift coverage as needed or assigned.
• Snow Removal, Snow Blower use, shoveling and Ice Melt Application.
• Other Duties as Assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Successfully complete and pass a Board of Probations Background Check. - Required
• Successfully complete and pass a Fingerprinted Based Background Check.
• High School Diploma/G.E.D. or one to three (1-3) months related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. – Required
• Must have at least one year of experience in building maintenance.
• Working knowledge of landscaping equipment and snow removal equipment. – Preferred
