Job summary

Knox County Government is seeking a Laborer 2 to drive trucks and operate equipment supporting County roads, drainage systems and other structures.

This is a safety-sensitive role requiring a drug screen; perform various manual tasks including mowing, cleaning, and equipment maintenance.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a Tennessee CDL; three years driving or related experience, with ability to work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or GED; with three (3) years’ experience in truck driving, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Operates motor equipment in the performance of tasks including mowing, loosening, raking, and shoveling dirt, sand, asphalt, and other materials.
• Removes trees, bushes, shrubs, stumps, rocks, and other items using various types of equipment.
• Drives truck to collect litter as required.
• Spreads seed and straw to maintain grass on County property.
• Cleans, services truck and tools associated with daily work.
• Operate single or tandem axle dump truck with sporadic hauling of equipment and materials, if needed.
• Repairs driveway easement, patches potholes, builds curbs, and maintains or repairs County roads and other structures.
• Assists in the installation of spreader boxes and snowplows on dump trucks.
• Spreads salt and sand on icy pavements to prepare County roads for travel during inclement weather.

The Laborer 2 is responsible for the following essential functions:

• Operates motor equipment in the performance of various tasks to include mowing, loosening, raking, and shoveling dirt, sand, asphalt, and other materials.
• Removes trees, bushes, shrubs, stumps, rocks, and other items using various types of equipment.
• Drives truck to collect litter as required.
• Spreads seed and straw to maintain grass on County property.

Additional Job Functions

• Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
• Perform other duties as required

Minimum Training & Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or GED; with three (3) years’ experience in truck driving, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

• Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work.
• Ability to bend, kneel, squat, stand for extended periods of time, working outdoors in various types of weather conditions.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, cold and hot weather conditions including precipitation
• Exposure to sunlight for extended periods of time
• Exposure to vehicular traffic traveling at high speeds
