Responsibilities

• Breaks pavement, digs, backfills, and tamps trenches or other excavations with hand or pneumatic tools.
• Loads, unloads, moves, and places materials and equipment in the field and storeroom, using manually operated lift trucks and other light material handling equipment: pipe, fittings, tools, supplies, and excavated material.
• Assists in shoring, bracing, and bridging excavations.
• Removes water from trenches, excavations, manholes, and work areas using hand pumps and bailing.
• Drills holes in concrete, masonry, brick, and asphalt with pneumatic or hand tools; patches as needed.
• Mixes and places pavement bases and surface materials.
• Cleans and prepares surfaces, applying protective coatings such as paint, tar, tape, or primer to department supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Cleans manholes, vaults, pits, drains, trenches, roofs, eaves, and trims lawns and grass as needed.
• Obtains pipe fitting materials, supplies, and tools from the storeroom as directed.
