Job Summary

Sims Metal seeks a dependable, hardworking Laborer to join our scrap metal recycling facility in Mays Landing, NJ. This is a full-time, first-shift position involving general labor, sorting and processing scrap metal, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and supporting daily yard operations.

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, reliable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable performing physically demanding work outdoors in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Sort, separate, and process various types of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.

Perform general labor duties, including lifting, moving, and organizing scrap materials.

Assist with loading and unloading trucks and recyclable materials.

Remove unwanted materials and debris from scrap piles and processing areas.

Maintain yard cleanliness through sweeping, shoveling, and general housekeeping.

Assist equipment operators and other team members with daily operations.

Safely use basic hand tools and equipment.

Work around heavy machinery, forklifts, trucks, and other industrial equipment.

Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues.

Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Previous experience in general labor, construction, landscaping, manufacturing, warehouse operations, or scrap metal recycling preferred but not required.

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.

Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.

Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus.

Ability to follow instructions and work safely around heavy equipment.

Dependable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team.

Willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.

Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, changing weather conditions, and moving equipment.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive physical activity.

Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
