General Description

SUNY Niagara is seeking a dedicated and able Laborer to join our Operations team. As a Laborer, you will play a vital role in maintaining the appearance of our college campus, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

As a Laborer, you will perform a variety of routine cleaning duties under supervision to prepare buildings, classrooms, and offices for daily operations. Good listening skills and the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions are essential. The successful applicant will have a positive attitude and strong customer service skills. Reliable attendance is important as campus activities depend heavily on this position.

The responsibilities of this position involve performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual work. Under direct supervision, the incumbent performs routine work requiring physical strength, endurance, and a willingness to perform heavy work.

This position will provide a steady and consistent 40-hour work week with overtime opportunities.

Typical Work Activities

1. Cleans and services buildings by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and waxing floors in offices, halls, classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, corridors, stairwells, and other common areas.
2. Cleans lighting fixtures, replaces light bulbs, washes windows, moves furniture, and performs other cleaning duties.
3. Assists with outside work such as sweeping walks, shoveling snow, trash pickup, and salting adjacent to buildings.
4. Picks up and disposes of trash or soiled linen.
5. Occasionally assists with the loading and unloading of trucks related to special event material and supplies.

Essential Functions

Ability to lift heavy weights; willingness to perform routine manual work; willingness to work under all weather conditions; physical endurance; physical condition commensurate with the requirements of the position.
