Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Construction Laborer who performs tasks involving physical labor at underground utility construction projects, operating a variety of hand and power tools, and assisting in various construction‑related tasks. The Construction Laborer will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina and the position is non‑exempt.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in underground utility construction projects; performs manual work in preparing the site for the contracted scope of work.
- Shovels dirt, concrete, asphalt, and various other construction materials into construction areas.
- Excavates and fills trenches and ditches.
- Maintains a clean job site: picks up and delivers all tools and equipment and secures the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
- Performs materials handling and storage.
- Loads and unloads trucks and hauls and hoists materials.
- Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed; brings problems to the attention of the foreman, safety director, or supervisor.
- Assist pipe layer, equipment operator, and foreman as needed.
- Traffic control flagging as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.
- Must have physical strength and endurance.
- Ability to lift heavy materials.
- Comfort working in a high‑stress environment with extreme weather fluctuations.
Education and Experience
- Education: High school diploma/GED preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years construction industry experience preferred.
