Job summary

Job description

Overview

Part‑time, 0.4 – 0.6FTE; 11:00pm – 7:30am; rotating weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions in the laboratory information system, including phlebotomy, specimen collection, processing, reporting, and storage.
  • Execute preventive maintenance, supply upkeep, and quality control with appropriate documentation, coordination, and communication.
  • Apply knowledge of and uphold applicable laws and regulations related to the position.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of techniques, procedures, and protocols lab‑wide and within the lab section.
  • Review and acknowledge procedures as required.
  • Deliver service excellence, one‑team collaboration, and quality patient care by adapting communication styles to diverse cultural differences, researching problems, identifying resolutions, troubleshooting, and handling interruptions efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe environment, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and report spills and hazardous situations immediately.
  • Follow established guidelines for disclosure of patient information.
  • Assist with process development and improvement within the department, including participation in quality assurance, continuing education programs, department meetings, and special projects.
  • Provide helpful feedback and support individual improvement and assist with training and competency of employees, students, fellows, and rotators.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • OR equivalent education and training as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations 42 C.F.R. § 493.1489(b)(3)(ii).
Certifications

American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification, preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally: bend/twist, climb stairs/ladder, fume/gases/vapors, lift/carry 11–20lbs, lift/carry 21–40lbs, handle loud noises, push/pull 0–25lbs, reach above shoulder, squat/kneel.
  • Frequently: chemicals/medications, computer use, hand use (grasping, gripping, turning), machinery operation, repetitive hand/arm use, walking.
  • Continuously: audible speech, biohazard waste, blood and/or bodily fluids, color vision, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, decision making, depth perception, flexing/extending of neck, hearing acuity, interpreting data, lift/carry 0–10lbs, peripheral vision, problem solving, seeing (far/near), sitting, and standing.
