Job summary

The Laboratory Technologist I position in Vega Baja, PR supports the Quality Control Laboratory by performing a range of analytical tests on raw materials, APIs, finished products, and special projects, and by preparing data and reviewing results.

Responsibilities include documenting results, maintaining equipment, following SOPs, and ensuring data integrity, with flexibility to work irregular hours as needed.

Qualifications

Laboratory Technologist I, Raw Material/Finished Product

Location: Vega Baja, PR

Reports To: Quality Control Laboratory

Position Purpose: Perform a range of basic to complex analytical laboratory analyses of raw materials, active pharmaceutical ingredients, finished products, and special projects, following established procedures and techniques. Assist in scheduling of work and review/approval of laboratory data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform analytical testing in conformance with specifications, procedures, and SOPs to meet quality and accuracy requirements.
2. Document results in logbooks, notebooks, or working papers according to established procedures.
3. Report raw data, perform calculations, and prepare data for evaluation.
4. Interpret and evaluate analyses for accuracy, precision, and conformance to established criteria; identify and solve problems related to laboratory analysis.
5. Apply existing techniques and procedures, recommend and implement modifications for improved efficiency, or develop new analytical methods and techniques.
6. Review and evaluate analytical reports of raw materials, in‑process finished products, stability samples, and special projects; partner with others in re‑testing and/or re‑sampling as needed.
7. Approve analytical reports of materials (API, excipients, packaging components, and/or water samples).
8. Prepare and standardize solutions according to USP and/or official procedures; record results and expiration dates as required.
9. Prepare and check all reagents and solutions for analytical processes to ensure compliance with compendial and standard procedures.
10. Assure that laboratory equipment is maintained in proper working conditions, verify calibration dates, and report malfunctions to the Laboratory Team Leader.
11. Utilize the laboratory information management system (LIMS) or working paper to process analytical results and record values on reports.
12. Follow procedures for handling, movement, and disposal of samples.
13. Follow laboratory housekeeping procedures.
14. Maintain and use all reference standards as required by applicable procedures.
15. Notify the Team Leader or supervisor of any out‑of‑specification or questionable results and participate in laboratory investigations.
16. Conduct safety talks or training and be familiar with the safety data sheet (SDS) before using reagents.
17. Ensure compliance with data integrity principles and documentation procedures.
18. Ensure controlled substances are managed in accordance with regulation requirements and procedural instructions.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Knowledge: Laboratory equipment, testing techniques, general rules, glassware handling, laboratory safety rules.
• Skills & Abilities:
  • Read and write in English and Spanish (bilingual).
  • Team collaboration and ability to work under pressure.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Education / Experience: BS in Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Natural Sciences with 0–3 years of experience in an analytical laboratory.
• Licenses / Certifications: None.
• Language Skills: Basic ability to read and interpret general business documents, write routine reports, communicate basic concepts, and work with peers.
• Mathematical Skills: Intermediate/Professional ability to perform computations such as percentages, ratios, and rates.
• Reasoning Ability: Basic ability to solve practical problems through standardized solutions requiring limited judgment and following detailed procedures.
