Job description

As the Laboratory Technician, you will perform basic sample and standard preparations, simple analyses, and/or sample custodial duties. The position is based out of Cranston, RI. This is a full-time position with varying hours; the average work week is 40-45 hours depending on business needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sample receipt, handling, preparation of samples, solutions, reagents, and bottle preparation.
  2. Perform simple analyses or instrument utilization to generate data not directly reported to clients.
  3. Manage sample custodial duties including inventory upon receipt, storage, and disposal.
  4. Accurately document work after proper training, in accordance with ESS Laboratory policies and SOPs.
  5. Assist chemists and technicians as needed.
  6. Manage hazardous waste by ensuring proper storage and disposal.
  7. Properly dispose of samples, digestates, extracts, and reagents into satellite containers.
  8. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  9. Meet all quality criteria as specified in the QA manual.
  10. Communicate effectively with personnel across departments.
  11. Adhere to holding times and commitments for external and internal clients.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned, including clerical tasks to support the team.
Education & Experience
  1. Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field is preferred.
  2. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to learn technical terms.
  3. Ability to stand for long periods and work nights and weekends as needed.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
